Portraits or urban landscapes, on occasion both one and the other, the photographs of Guido Guidi (b. 1940) document everyday life in Italy, in the suburbs and medium-sized towns he has been exploring since the 1960s… A former student of the Università Iuav di Venezia, Guidi travels to photograph territories in a process of continual transformation (In Between Cities, 2003, and A New Map of Italy, 2011). It was around the beginning of the 1990s, in the course of this back-and-forth between the near and the far, that color photography succeeded the black-and-white of neorealist inspiration.
